When you play the Epiphone AJ-220S acoustic guitar, you'll be heard. With a unique Advanced Jumbo design, plus real spruce and mahogany tonewoods, the AJ-220S has a robust voice with rich bass notes and a shimmering, detailed presence. It's perfect for playing in acoustic ensembles, ensuring you'll be heard even with many other instruments to compete with. And because Epiphone chose solid Sitka spruce for the top, and solid mahogany for the back and sides, the tone will enhance as the wood matures. Real tonewoods aren't something you'd typically find on an affordable guitar like this, but then again the Epiphone AJ-220S isn't your typical acoustic guitar!
The AJ-220S has a unique bell-like shape, a larger lower bout, and a small round upperbout which gives this new addition to Epiphone's Advanced Jumbo family of guitars a unique voice. And the AJ-220S is made with Epiphone's century's worth of experience in crafting world-class guitars that are meant to be played.
Acoustic guitar players know it's difficult to find an instrument that has both a deep bass tone and crisp loud projection. On a small stage with an acoustic band and little amplification, a good acoustic guitar should be able be heard and anchor a band. The AJ220S's strong and balanced tone will make other acoustic players who have spent much more on their guitars wish they had gone to Epiphone instead. Like all Epiphone acoustics, the AJ220S is legendary for being easy to set up and for staying in tune so no matter how much playing time you have, it's ready to go.
The AJ-220S features a Solid Sitka Spruce top. Spruce is a rich and complex tonewood that begins to breath and improve with age the more its played. So play the AJ-220S a lot! The body is made from solid mahogany and the bridge is made from beautiful rosewood glued at the precise point for stable tone and intonation. Guitars endure great stress between the nut and bridge and rosewood has proven to be long lasting and a perfect tone compliment to a Spruce top. The classic style pickguard features the iconic Epiphone "E" and is set off by simple but elegant black binding.
The AJ-220S mahogany neck is glued with a classic dovetail joint at the 14th fret and features a 25.5" scale, a SlimTaper shape and a rosewood fingerboard with dot fret markers. An iconic Sloped Dovewing headstock completes the look with premium tuners.
Epiphone is one of American's oldest and most revered instrument makers and since 1873, Epiphone has made instruments for every style of popular music. The name evokes both history and the spirit of invention. Epiphone has been an audible presence in every great musical era from the mandolin craze of the early 1900s to jazz age guitars of the 1920s. From swing-era archtops through post-war pop, jazz, R&B, and early rock n' roll. From the "British Invasion" to heavy metal, punk, grunge, and thrash. And now, in the 21st century, new Epiphone technical breakthroughs such as the ProBucker pickup, series parallel switching, built-in KillSwitch pots, the Shadow NanoFlex and NanoMag pickup systems, and premier acoustic/electric guitars with the eSonic preamp have brought the historic name to a new generation.
